My computer is plugged into the network but I don't have access to the internet. What can I do?

We like to take a linear approach to issues like this. We will start at the physical layer and work our way up to the application layer.

  • To start, let's check if all the wired connections are good. It may be possible that the port you are trying to use is not activated. Contact your local IT representative to ensure the physical wiring is installed correctly at both the desktop and switch/patch panel side.

If the step above does not resolve the issue, we may need to modify the network configuration. By conducting a few short tests and sending us the results, we can quickly pinpoint the issues and quickly resolve the issue.

  • If you are on a Windows workstation, please follow these steps:
    • Open a command prompt (Win + R), type "cmd" and press Enter.
    • Type ipconfig and press Enter
    • Type ping 8.8.8.8 and press Enter
    • Type ping google.com and press Enter
  • If you are on a Mac workstation, please follow these steps:
    • Open a terminal. You can search for "terminal" in spotlight search.
    • Type ifconfig and press Enter
    • Type ping 8.8.8.8 and press Enter
    • Type ping google.com and press Enter
  • If you are on a Linux workstation, please follow these steps:
    • Open a terminal.
    • Type ifconfig and press Enter
    • Type ping 8.8.8.8 and press Enter
    • Type ping google.com and press Enter

Once you have completed the steps above, please open a ticket and select the "IoT / Network Solution" help topic. Please provide as much information as possible, to include the output from the commands above. We'll be happy to help!
